6th Grade Computer Project

- Students received the "memo" of the assignment on canary yellow paper... in a memo style with the student as the "Creative Director" and me as the "C.E.O. of Screen Featuers, Inc. ... the memo is regarding this "New Game Product Line ~ Screen Features" ... in this memo the stage is set for this assignment.

- We spent 1 full class day discussing the project and project possibilities.

- Create and design a game based on your screen feature icons.  In class we brainstormed games that people enjoy playing, for example; monopoly, scrabble, candyland, memory/concentration, pictionary, etc.

- We then began making connections on how a person could put a 'twist' on these games using the screen feature icons [that we have been studying] as the content of the game, for example; if you were to use the memory/concentration game... you could draw the icon on one card and write the name of the icon on the other card.  After you have used a minimum of 30 icons, you would spread out your cards (mixed up, of course).  Players would then have to flip over the card and try to find the other card that would be a 'match' to the name or icon.

- A reminder that you also have to come up with directions and a name for your newly designed game.  You might use the computer for the entire game or you might not use the computer at all... maybe you will draw, sketch, construct, paint, etc.  Your options are endless.  Be creative and have fun!

- Part of the challenge of this screen features game is that you have exactly 3 days to complete this profitable assignment.  The working time-table looks something like this...

BLACK DAY:

  • work day 1 = Fri, 4-19
  • work day 2 = Tue. 4-23
  • work day 3 = Thurs. 4-25,
  • play the games in class on Mon. 4-29

RED DAY

  • work day 1 = Mon. 4-22
  • work day 2 = Wed. 4-24
  • work day 3 = Fri. 4-26
  • play the games in class on Tue. 4-30
